MOM, SHANNON, BECKY, TORI DO NOT READ THIS POST, PLEASE!!
I had initially thought that officer was shot in the head. He was. He is in the hospital, by life flight, in critical condition. I pray he pulls through. The reports state that he is interacting during treatment and expected to make a full recovery.
Can I get a YES!!!!!!!!!! from y'all.
Today I had to drop something off at the dentists office. As I was heading toward the freeway I witnessed a Lehi police officer trying reaching into a car and it looked like he was either trying to keep the girl from driving away or he was trying to take something away. There were two others ready to help when needed. As I passed I heard a shot and the report than two quick shots with their respective reports. (The report is the sound you hear following the initial shot. Kind of like an echo). This was about 8:56 AM.
Some news reports are inaccurate. They have stated that the other two officers arrived following the shooting and shot her. They were already there. They were assisting the initial officer as he was trying to keep her and the public safe. They responded to a call that she was driving iradically.
Stupidly I made the U-turn and my initial thoughts proved true. The girl was tiny, thin, and blond. She had shot the officer and his two partners had shot her. She had expired. The officer was down and his partners were attending to him. One was on the radio, I believe calling it in. I pulled over after I passed and prayed. It was all I could do. I am praying that the officer is not fatally wounded. His family needs him. I am shaking. I am crying. I don't know the officer, but I know that he put his life on the line.
I couldn't call my mom, sister-in-law, or BFF from 7th grade. By brother is a cop. I have many friends that are cops. I called my brother, the cop. He helped me see that in cases like that the wound is not usually fatal. He did not ease my shaking.
What the hell was she doing with a gun? What was she running from? What is her story? How did she get to the point of no return?
Is this officer ok? His partners? I want them to know that they did what they had to do. Many officers and veterans suffer from Post Traumatic Stress due to having to shoot someone. Do they know that they are not monsters? Do they know how much respect I hold for them?
I just pray that the officer only received minor wounding and that he will be home with his family tonight, alive, and eating dinner.
THANK YOU. These two words seem very inadequate right now.
