Football Woes

A few days ago Tori did a post where she got on her soap box.

Today, I step up on mine.

Last night I went to watch my son play football. It was a pretty evenly skilled team at first glance. Then I notice that the clock person is letting the clock run when he should stop it. They other thing is that the referee's were making some very biased calls. I know, you've all heard this before. There were many angry men, coaches, and parents that also noticed this.

Provo High played Lehi High last Night. Lehi was grabbing face masks and not getting penalized or even called on them. It had to be blatent roughing the kicker in order for the refs to throw a flag against Lehi. This means that Lehi was allowed to hold, clip, jump offsides, grab face masks, stand on the field and UNETHICAL the entire game.

Now, I know that Provo made it's mistakes. We had a couple turnovers and some holes that needed to be filled. Our defense did really well, that is until they had to play the four extra players wearing black and white. (Lehi's school color is purple.)

The last 3 minutes the refs were making up calls and throwing flags on all but 3 plays. For example: the ball would be dead and the ref would call a holding call as players were heading back. The playiers would line up and a flag would be thrown.

The biggest upset is that with 15 seconds to go the clock was allowed to go forward to 10 seconds. Then the ref called a time out for Lehi. Yes the ref called the time out. Lehi was out of time outs and when the coaches agreed to allow it the refs should have called a penalty. They didn't. They moved the ball forward and the score of Lehi 10-Provo 13 (that should have been the final score) was changed to 17 to 13!

I'm all for the team losing IF they earn it. But they played a lot better than Lehi and so the refs took pity on Lehi and gave them the game.

I WAS SO PISSED!!!!! I wasn't alone. The men around me were yelling load at the refs, and swearing!!! I didn't know people actually yelled those words from the stands. It made me laugh because even though I was so mad, I wasn't going to swear at the refs.

Lehi hired unethical referees like I've never seen in the last 4 years of watching Provo High football.

On a good note: Though Varsity lost JV won!!!!! 23-24 and Monkey Wrench injured his elbow. I guess when you are stopping TWO opposing team players with ONE right elbow it's a bit much to do.

He is fine and will be wearing a brace to help him support his elbow in future games.
