Nobody could respond to Anonymous better than me ;)
Anonymous left this for me- I wish Anonymous was brave/courageous enough to say this to my face. I like face to face better than any other kind of communication.
I don't think this is very funny. If a member of the LDS church was really devote in their faith, they wouldn't be making fun of it in this way. I don't appreciate the obnoxious comments about ward's in this post, especially about the nudist ward...totally inappropriate.
Well Anonymous got me to thinking. Maybe I'm not what they consider devout (which I am guessing they really meant when they wrote devote)
I have a history of sitting by youth who wear jeans to church, have blue hair, have large gauges in their ears, and even have really long hair. A handful of said youth have even been invited by me.
What what I thinking?
Well there was enough room on the pews. We make a habit of arriving no later than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time. There are those (usually my friends) who arrive late, no matter what time church starts.
So the nudist ward comment was off. Robert Kirby admits that he made it up. I figured that man is that he might have joy. I find joy in laughing at myself and little quirks that "mormons" are known by. I especially love Mormon Media that does the same. Laughter is the best medicine.
My favorite by far was the MLM ward aka the Gadianton Robber Ward. Have you been invited to join Amway, Quixtar, A Phone company, etc? No? Well we were. I never regret joining Amway. They have great products and I learned a lot in the training that has helped me be successful in my current career. I also made some great friends through the whole process and I still love those who invited us to join. I'm not really devout in Amway either. I can tell you all about why I love the products, but if you want to see the plan I'm not your gal. I don't know it. I can inquire some and find out who can, but you'll have to sign in blood that you will still love me. I don't want to lose friends because they see the plan and don't like it.
I also miss church sometimes. When I am in a lot of pain or I have a health crash I stay home. I have skipped Stake Conference, but not General Conference, and I have forgotten that my presence was requested at a meeting on several occasions.
I know people who yell their testimony at you. I'm sure it is just so that they can be sure that you heard them.
So anyway, Anonymous, I am sorry that you took the post so literally. I really expected someone to be more offended by the line that says, "in Utah the best we could probably hope for is a Democrat branch..." than anything else.
And thank you anonymous for pointing out that I am imperfect. I definitely have some things to work on. You doing your Christian duty to help out with that is indeed a good turn for the day.

The scriptures say "for with that same judgement which ye judge ye shall also be judged."
It is not anyone's place to say how devout you are or not. If they don't like what you say on your own blog, then they don't have to read it.
Oh dear! Anonymous had better steer completely clear of my blog. I loved your last post and emailed the link to most of my church friends. I guess none of us are very devout.
Goodness gracious what is wrong with people!!!!!!
I thought it was very funny.
I'm with you, my friend...laughter is the best medicine. :D
Our wonderful neighbor across the street is a devout member of our ward, and happens to be a democrat. People enjoy poking fun at him as the "token democrat" but it's all good-natured, and he knows he is loved. :)
Anonymous: it's okay to lighten up!
That anonymous sounds just like "nobody" wrote it!
Not!
I bet they have a nudist democrat branch in Vegas where everyone is pretty!
Can you imagine living life so uptight?
It's good to laugh...especially at ourselves!
I thought it was funny! and I married into a family full of bishops, my husband is the EQ pres- and I can guarantee every last one of them would be laughing hysterically-
I agree that sacred things are sacred, but poking fun at our idiosyncrasies keeps us humble :) And I think I will pass on the nudist ward- I really don't want to see that - blegh!
I love annonymous cowards, um I mean commenters- they give us so much fuel.-
I do read you often- haven't commented before- you are funny! I am a Provo Alumni- quite a while ago.
Gotta love those "anonymous" comments;) I think the world of you Klin.
Isn't it amazing that people still don't get it? We are ALL God's children, no matter our hair color or the size of gauge (or lack of gauge) in our ear. I'm glad you invited those kids to church! I'm sorry Poopy Head---uh---I mean Anonymous--- is so grumpy. Good for you! You go, girl!
I'm glad all members of the monkey kingdom are okay, too!
...and P. S....
I thought that article was funny! Funny is important! It keeps us crazy people going!
Keep up the funny!!
I guess I'm not devote either because I loved the article! I better go work on my devote-ness.
Lighten up people! Sheesh!
It was obviously done in clean humor and not to make fun of our church.
Just making fun with it, big difference.
I think "anonymous" has a point. I think people should display their religion in a way that will draw investigators to it, not make fun of it. What if someone who wasn't LDS saw the editorial and then created some form of judgement upon it not to join? Is that really fair to give the church that kind of a title?
I am a 50 year old woman, probably your same age because I know you from your last area. Would you really write all of this if the savior was sitting right there next to you? Probably not. I agree with anonymous and Jen, I'm proud of my religion and obviously your not.
I have to agree with Jen and K. I admit, I am not a perfect member of the LDS church, nobody is. But if you make those kind of comments about the church, the recent converts, non-members, or doubting members may take those literally and be totally confused. I don't make it to church on time sometimes, and I miss meetings every once in a while, but I DEFINATELY WOULD NOT make those kind of comments about my religion.
As I was reading these comments, I think that the majority of you are being really harsh on "Anonymous." You all have your opinions, just like she does. In my trasnlation of her comment, I think she was trying to say that she thinks it is a bad idea to joke about your religion like that, especially in a place like this, a blog site where hundreds of random non-members and recent coverts are looking at blogs of LDS families. And I actually agree with her. Its probably ok to joke about it among your friends, family, and other people who you know would probably take it as a joke. But not on a public site like this where people would take it offensively.
And I agree with Brittany as well. Honestly, I wouldn't want to be the person who turned an ivestigator, recent convert, or a doubting member away from the church. I would want to help bring them in, and honestly, those comments would turn someone away. Imagine being a non-member and coming across this blog randomly and reading that post. Then, if a missionary came up to your door and asked if they could share the gospel with you, you just might remember that blog post and the bashing commenters and it would make you wonder how serious they were about the gospel. You might just turn them away because of a comment like that. Something to think about...
It may not be about how devout you are, it might just be about how much you are willing to help the church grow and endure.

For those who choose not to read the whole post below- I DID NOT WRITE THE POST!
Robert Kirby did and it was published in the Salt Lake Tribune.
For further clarification it was sent to me by someone I look up to who has served in the capacity of Relief Society President, Young Women's President, and many other callings.
For "K"- If you know my from my last area then you should know that I am not close to 50 and I work with those who have been shunned by those claiming to be just like you and Jen, Brittany, and Patricia. Yes I can laugh at things and emphatically yes I would be able to laugh if Christ were sitting next to me.
I think you should go up and read Heffalump's comment. She was first. If you truly know me then you would not be making the statements about me not being proud ti be LDS. I lived the other side. I KNOW the church is true and I know who my Savior is. I also know that he loves those who Robert Kirby has written of. Sometimes life happens. It's okay to laugh about it. It's much better than getting upset and thinking ill of others or being too judgmental.
