So in my real life I am a mental health therapist (don't go all private on me- I don't get paid to analyze others and it's too draining to do for everyone). As I watch movies or read I often am struck by phrases that have therapeutic value. Depending on the client I am able to help them use this as a way to understand a concept.
I recently picked up New Moon again. I had only read it twice. I felt like reading again and decided to take the time to really get what is going on. Bella is irritating to some people. I am actually fascinated by her. She doesn't have the most ideal childhood and her mom is a bit of basket case (of course that is a clinical term :P) Yet she is still quite healthy mentally. She has taken the hardships caused by her parents' (mostly mom's) decision(s) and has turned them to strengths. I could write a whole post about this, but uhm, I'm too lazy.
Instead I want to post a couple of quotes that are great for therapy or life (cause you can be your own therapist with the right tools) and a few that made me laugh. You will find these quotes in the New Moon novel by Stephanie Meyer (for those not familiar with the Twilight series).
Funny
Well, Gran, you might have noticed that my boyfriend glitters. It's just something he does in the sun." (pg 4)
"I.....spotted Edward leaning motionlessly against his polished silver Volvo, like a marble tribute to some forgotten pagan god of beauty." (pg 7)
"You really, honestly don't mind that I morph in to a giant dog?" (pg 308)
"I imagined he was contemplating the fact that his family's presence was turning the locals into giant dogs." (Eclipse preview in back of book, no page listed. Chapter 1)
Therapeutic
"I waited for the numbness to return, or the pain." (pg 116)
This is pretty much how life is for everyone. Some use drugs, work, food, OCD behaviors, etc to numb the pain. Here Bella faces the pain. We cannot attend to what we cannot feel. When Bella begins to actively remember (that's what I'll call it here) her memories of Edward she fears that the pain will return. It's a risk to take. Learning how to deal with pain, rather than running from it, make us stronger. It is what builds our character and teaches us that we CAN handle it. Knowing you can do something is much better than fearing it will bring you down.
Which Bella beautifully describes here:
"And yet, I found I could survive. I was alert, I felt the pain -- the aching loss that radiated out from my chest, sending wracking waves of hurt through my limbs and head-- but it was manageable. I could live through it. It didn't feel like the pain had weakened over time, rather that I'd grown strong enough to bear it." (pg 118)
I'm sure there are more. I just rememberd to mark these as I was reading.
So do you have any quotes from books you've read that make you laugh? Give good advice? Share. Please.

I love the last quote. As hard as it is,I would rather feel the pain that comes in life. Without pain, there can be no joy.
New Moon is full of amazing quotes. I love it!
Pain is inevitable at some point in our lives, right? I love what you wrote--"Knowing you can do something is much better than fearing it will bring you down".
I only have a couple of books here with me. But I'll have to come back after I get home if I find anything.
Jacob is mine.
Bella irritates me. I guess bc I deal with pain differently. I don't cry in the fetal position on the ground all the time. That bugs. Now the motorcycle riding... I may do that.
Oh I forgot about those. I need to pick it up again it has been too long.
No quotes to share. Just thinking of the New Moon trailer and the YouTube guinea pig version ... Brittany gets mad when I play it and laugh...I'm sorry, but the morphing into a g. pig is just funny. :)
Very cool post! I rarely remember quotes from books on my own, but they return to my dinky brain when someone else quotes them! ;)
