A Whole New World For Me to See

I have worn glasses since 2nd grade. When I got them my eye sight wasn't too bad. Over time my eyes eventually got to 4.5 & 4.25 in my right and left eyes, respectively.

For the last 29 years my vision has stayed stable at the above blurriness. In my early 20's I slept with my contacts in because I was too lazy to get up at 4:45 AM to put them in. I got corneal ulcers and learned the hard way that contacts are not for sleeping in. Extended wear means you can wear them for 14 hours, not 8 for the other kind i had.

Then they came out with the disposable contacts. So nice, cause when your contact got torn it didn't cost as much to replace it. However, my contacts did tear easily. Apparently I rough eye lids, cause I swear that I could just blink while driving and rip a hole in my contacts.

I hated my glasses cause I couldn't see over or under them. When I would exercise the sweat would run down in to my eyes and I couldn't just wipe it away because the glasses were in the way.

Now that I have complained about my vision I want to tell you what is different for me now since I had Custom Intralase Lasik last Friday.

  1. When I go to bed I actually feel for my glasses to take them off.
  2. When I realize that I can see the tv while laying down in bed I tell myself to take out my contacts.
  3. I still prep to put contacts in as part of my morning routine and then realize that a) I don't have contacts anymore or the supplies, and b) I have extra time to stand there and look at my eyebrows.
  4. I actually feel naughty when I close my eyes and open them to watch tv cause I've never been able to do that before.
  5. I can see signs that used to be blurred by astigmatism. It's so cool.
  6. Putting on make up is easier.
  7. I no longer have to have corrective lenses listed as a restriction on my drivers license :)
Did you know that the green smears on the mountains are actually individual little trees?
Welp, it's true. I can see that now. from.my.house.

I will be able to watch New Moon with greater clarity when I bring it home on Saturday morning! Squeeee!!!!

Yay! That is awesome that the surgery worked so well for you. It sounds like you are still getting used to it but before you know it you won't even remember what it was like before glasses and contacts!

Happy for you. Jealous for me. That is wonderful. I would love to do that.

When I got LASIK I would actually wake Sei up to tell him, "It's 2:30 AM!!!" I was so stoked to be able to see the clock. :)
CONGRATS!!!
