I don't like the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" because I really believe that "It takes a mother to raise a child."

Children need mothers. Adults need their mothers, too. I see so many generations being affected by the lack of mothering in my work. I am so grateful for my mom and to be a mom. It is my favorite job and my most honored position.

My mom is one of my best friends. She is there to listen to me. She guides me, still. She helps be the best me I can be. She has shown me that I can do whatever I put my mind to. She helps me grow by having faith in me and asking me to help her with her church callings, especially when I feel inadequate.

My children have taught me how to be there mother. They have taught me that they need boundaries. They need love. They need nurturing and they need food. They need hugs. All children of all ages need hugs. My children have taught me that if I let them fall they will get up and I can hold their hand while they grow and heal. They don't need me to fix things.

The best things that have ever happened to me have involved my mom or being a mom.
