Mommy Confessions

Annie had a fabulous post over at Mile High Mamas. It got me thinking about what things we don't let our kids do and why. Things that other parents might not be so concerned about.

So I will put my list here and you can put yours in the comments or on your own blog.
These are aside from the basic don't do drugs, drink alcohol, drive crazy, stay out late, be alone in the house with a girlfriend, have members of the opposite sex in your room, etc.

I won't buy a trampoline, nor will I allow my kids to buy one and put it in my yard. I have known people who have damaged their backs and necks and it's not a risk I am willing to take. I also had an episode where I was injured for catching a bounce wrong. And then I see these

Note: Funny is a misleading term in my book. The spelling is atrocious. I think it's from brain injury from jumping on the trampoline.

Yeah. More evidence that it isn't happening.

I don't take my kids to carnivals or allow them to go with other people. I simply say that "We don't go to carnivals." Why no carnivals, Klin? you ask. Well, because I know what kind of people are there. Not all of them are that kind, but there are many and my children won't benefit from hanging out with them. We have lots of fun educating our children on the many different lifestyles just with our family members, which we love and are not a harm to our children.

I don't let my children run around the neighborhood after 9 PM. Not even in the summer. They can run around the yard, but not the neighborhood. Because I want to get along with my neighbors. I don't want their kids doing the same thing. And last but not least there really is not good reason to.

I don't let me children freely eat and drink anything but water and fruits and veggies. They must ask for anything else. Most of the time they are really good at this. When they forget to follow the rule, I forget to buy that kind of food for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. THey are pretty quick learners.

I have so many more, but we have laundry to do, floors to mop, dinner to think about (notice I didn't say we actually had to cook it;)), and a gaggle of other mom tasks. So here's the part where you contribute.

What is it that you don't allow your children to do? Why? Leave it in the comments or post it. Be sure to tell me when you do so I can come read.

Oh, and thanks for reading about my neurotic parenting.
