The Difficulty of Buying a House

You've all heard that it's a buyer's market, right? In my mind that means it should be easier to buy a home. NOT.

We put an offer on a home that would have worked beautifully. It was a short sale home. Short sale means run as fast as you can the other way that the home is headed for foreclosure. The owner accepts the offer and then presents it to the bank. The banks do not feel that the deadlines apply to them. They still have not responded to our first offer. We made that in mid May. Grrr.

So we go on to another home. Short sale. We get out bid. Not to worry. There is another home that we like. Short sale. We get out bid again. We start to get frustrated.

We look at many more homes and find a few more that will fit our family. One has foundation problems. We check that off the list and keep looking. We put an offer on one and wait. Short sale. We are slow learners determined to get a newer home that doesn't need a ton of work and will fit our family. One that was previously under contract is now available. We need to wait until we hear about the other one so we wait. We again get out bid, by $5,000. I screamed. "Why don't they counter back. We are ready to go now!!" They took the people that don't have the financing secured. Aaaaaaaagh!

We are now 3 weeks from homeless. Our home is sold and no one will take our money and give us a home in return. I know that the Lord always takes care of me and he hasn't let me down. Does he have to cut it soooooo close? I'm freaking out at this point and schedule a time to go through more homes with our agent.

We go through a couple. Not impressed. He takes us to an area we have already looked in. There were two more that we thought might work. He takes us to the door of a home that doesn't have a sign in the yard. He says, this has been on the market 4 days. We knock. We are invited in.

In all the home we looked at I took note of the towel racks, bedroom layout, specific master bath features, and scrutinized the kitchen.

When we walked into this home we knew we were home. We took our shoes off and began the tour.

The kitchen doesn't have the counter tops we want. The master bath doesn't have a jetted tub (yet), the basement needs finishing with in a couple weeks of moving in to accommodate our proctor children and our daughters.

It is our home. It is where we are supposed to be. None of that matters as much as it did with the other houses. I don't even know IF there are towel bars in the bathrooms.

It is cheaper per square foot than the others were. It is home.
